The ‘Bridges Between Us’

Art Education Victoria, in partnership with the Department of Education Victoria, invites Foundation to Level 10 students in Victorian Government schools to create artworks celebrating meaningful relationships and connections—the ‘bridges’—between themselves and others in their community.

This optional project invites both primary and secondary students to create artworks exploring meaningful relationships and connections or the ‘bridges’ that link us together. 

Why this project matters

• Encourages students to explore how they connect with others through shared experiences.
• Provides an opportunity for students to examine relationships through art and tell their stories visually.
• Inspires young people to recognise and celebrate the positive ties that strengthen respect and inclusion in our communities.

What schools receive

• Digital teacher’s kit: a complete guide for implementing the project (note: digital-only, not printed as originally planned).
• Lesson plans: 6-week program for primary and 5-week program for secondary levels, aligned with the Victorian Curriculum 2.0 – Visual Arts and VTLM 2.0.
• Artist case studies: 7 diverse examples showcasing artists whose work explores connection and community.
• Professional learning workshop: a free 90-minute online session was held on Thursday 19 March and featured artist Eugenia Lim. You will receive a recording of this workshop when you order the free Teacher Kit resource. Both the recording and Teacher Kit will be sent directly to your inbox. 

School based exhibition (optional)

The ‘Bridges Between Us’ project will no longer be hosting a central exhibition in 2026. We encourage schools to celebrate student work by holding their own local exhibitions. If you decide to hold an exhibition, we would love to see some photos of student work. Please send these to either:
