The Studio Artist: Practice & Process Teacher PD Program | ACCA

The Studio Artist: Practice & Process Teacher PD Program | ACCA

15 May 2017, 9:30am–3:30pm

Learn about art practice and processes in-depth at ACCA through both discussion and hands-on art making activities centred upon Australian contemporary artist Claire Lambe’s exhibition Mother Holding Something Horrific. This exhibition provides opportunity to learn about the fascinating process of developing a solo art project – from initial inspiration, exploration and development, through to resolution and final presentation – in a way that will be readily communicable to students.

Through a discussion between Claire Lambe and curator Annika Kristensen discover the behind-the-scenes processes involved in realising an ambitious solo exhibition, as well as Lambe’s particular inspirations, historical and cultural influences, and how these have been expressed through visual language within the exhibition. Following this, attendees will participate in a hands-on art-making workshop led by the artist.

In the afternoon participants will have exclusive access to studios at the Victorian College of The Arts, where they will hear from current art students and teachers about studio investigation and experimentation with a range of concepts, materials, techniques and processes, and how this practice culminates into a resolved body of artwork.

A tailored resource will provide adaptable examples of analysis of multiple artworks in the exhibition using all four of the VCE Art Analytical Frameworks. For VCE Studio Art this resource will also document the development of Lambe’s project from initial proposal, to studio experimentation, refinement and exhibition installation in a manner that will be clearly related to students own art projects. This professional development day, whilst ideal for teachers of VCE Art and Studio Art, is intended to provide valuable insight for visual arts teachers of all levels.
