Printmaking – The Scrutiny of Place

In her KickstART presentation, Elli links physical, tangible, worldly places to intangible emotions. Elli explains her interest in how a place can reveal something about a person’s identity. Two months into her Studio Arts study, Ellie became unmotivated, questioning herself and her loss of engagement in her subject matter of Landscapes. She found that some of the many ideas in her Exploration Proposal had to change. After signing off changes with her teacher and changing her work plan and Exploration Proposal, Elli moved on to portraiture with much more passion. This culminated in a range of very successful linocuts and etchings. Ellie’s revealing presentation reinforces the importance of deeply questioning your commitment to the materials, processes, and subject matter that you have chosen and not being fearful to make the necessary, bold changes.
