SENSORY LEARNING IN THE VISUAL ARTS | HEIDE

SENSORY LEARNING IN THE VISUAL ARTS | HEIDE

Wednesday, 20 September 2017, 9–3.30pm

Rich sensory experiences are fundamental to wellness and healthy development. This experiential workshop aims to bring awareness to our attitudes and preconceptions of creativity. Teachers will gain skills in working with students of different sensory needs, but also, provide a variety of sensory opportunities for all students in their classroom. It supports teachers in achieving standards descriptors 1.6, 1.5 or 4.1 for their VIT registration. The day will include a presentation from Irabina Autism Services and a practical workshop with artist Rebecca Knaggs.

Irabina Autism Services is a not-for profit organisation dedicated to helping young people and families adapt to the challenges of living with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Delivering expert support and education services for almost 50 years, Irabina’s team of therapists, psychologists and specialist educators provide assistance to individuals aged between 0-21 years, helping them connect with and understand the world around them.

Rebecca Knaggs is a practicing artist, facilitator and passionate arts educator with diverse experience (including disability and mental health services) engaging people from all walks of life in their own unique form of creative self-expression.
