Vice President - Penny McGonegal
Senior School Coordinator Visual Art Faculty | Strathmore Secondary College
I currently teach in a Government, Secondary Art room and absolutely love it. My passion for my role has only grown throughout my short years in the profession. I am equally passionate about Visual Arts as I am about the teaching profession. I started my career with a double degree in Visual Arts (Sculpture) and Secondary Education at Monash University. From there, I was offered my position at Strathmore Secondary College. A large school with a passionate experienced and committed Art faculty who continue to inspire me. I took my first year 12 Art class in 2014 and instantly connected with the course. In the past few years, I have discovered a passion for working more closely with colleagues and the value in sharing and working collaboratively. I have presented to colleagues and students in a variety of contexts. Some of which are: The Arts Education Victoria Annual Conference, the annual Kick Start seminars for AEV alongside students and other Secondary Educators and to teacher candidates at the University of Melbourne.
I believe that the opportunity to share and collaborate between staff is invaluable. Between the community of Art Educations and professionals working within the Visual Arts in our state, there is a wealth of knowledge and experience that can be drawn upon to enhance our teaching. Unfortunately, many Art teachers are in schools by themselves or with one or two other colleagues and feel isolated from other professionals and resources. I would like to help build a council where sharing and collaboration is fostered, encouraged and accessible. I am extremely passionate and interested and truly believe that Art Education Victoria has huge potential for the Art Educators in Victoria.
